Many women have been seeking a more natural way to deal with menopause in recent times. This is because standard menopause treatments have side effects, i.e. hormone replacement therapy may increase the risk of cancer. Obviously the side effect mentioned is worrying, and some women will not want to take the risk, in this article we discuss foods that provide natural help with menopause.

If you are looking for natural help with menopause then you may end up using natural substances such as herbs and nutrients that help to relieve the symptoms of menopause that all women dread.

Outlined below are some natural substances you can use that help to relieve the symptoms of menopause:

Dong Quai – This is used to deal with pms, and many symptoms of menopause including hot flashes and vaginal dryness. It is probably best known for its ability to regulate the female reproductive system.

Black Cohosh – This herb is an excellent natural remedy for relieving the symptoms of menopause, particularly night sweats and hot flashes. It helps with menopause naturally and has no negative side effects.

Red Clover – This herb is believed to have a positive effect on the symptoms of menopause, it contains phytoestrogens which are believed to mimic the effects of estrogen in the body. This makes it a brilliant natural help with menopause.

Soy- Soy is another substance that contains phytoestrogens, this gives soy the ability to reduce the symptoms of menopause, the uncomfortable hot flashes.

Chastberry – This is another great herb that is great for natural help with menopause, it works by balancing the hormones during menopause, as a result of this it can provide relief against some of the symptoms.

Maca Root – Maca root is very nutritious and has been labeled as a superfood. It contains vitamins and minerals as well as nutrients and proteins, as you can see consuming Maca root can only be beneficial to the body.

During menopause a woman’s hormones become unstable causing various symptoms such as chronic fatigue, vaginal dryness and mood swings amongst others. Maca root is believed to relieve these symptoms by correcting the hormone imbalance.

Maca root is also believed to reduce fatigue and the symptoms of PMS, increase libido, increase stamina, increase energy levels and endurance.

As you can see there are several substances that give natural help with menopause, they are all safe so you may consider trying some to see which ones work best. A word of warning though, if you decide to buy herbs, make sure you buy them from a reputable seller, Unfortunately there are many rogue traders out there who sell dodgy herbal products. You can normally tell when a herbal product is dodgy, because they tend not to have labels on them. All reputable sellers label their products. When taking any form of herbal product make sure you don’t exceed the stated dose, which will be on the label. And finally before taking any herbal products it is advisable that you speak to your doctor.

Everything in life changes. Probably the only thing that doesn’t change is change itself. Life is a constant change. Everyone has to adapt to these changes in order to live. Some changes may not be favorable and can throw people into depression. Other changes are welcomed opportunities and can uplift our spirits. Still, there are changes that are only unique to women.

Menopause is a change a woman usually expects to experience when she reaches the age 40 and above. Menopause occurs when the ovarian function starts to decline. Accordingly, estrogen level also decreases. The decrease in estrogen level creates various irregularities in a woman’s menstrual cycle.

With the decrease in estrogen level comes also the declining amount and duration of the menstrual flow. Spotting, episodes of amenorrhea or lack of menstrual periods and abnormally frequent menstruations, or polymenorrhea, are also characteristic signs of a decreased ovarian function. It has been observed that these irregularities can last between a few months to several years before the actual cessation of menstruation occurs.

A woman may not know it, but there are a lot of changes she undergoes during and after menopause. Her body’s system may experience various changes, which usually occur after the complete cessation of menstruation. During menopause, a woman’s reproductive system undergoes changes; including the shrinkage of the vulval structures and the loss of some subcutaneous fats. Menopause also causes flattening of the vaginal rugae.

These changes are usually the reasons why women experience bleeding after sexual contact or douching. Furthermore, changes in the reproductive system after menopause cause vaginal itching, discharge from bacterial invasion and capillary loss in the atrophied vaginal walls. Vaginal dryness and decreased lubrication from the vaginal walls are also caused by menopause. Additionally, the declining level of estrogen during menopause results in progressive pelvic relaxation.

During menopause, the urinary system also undergoes a lot of changes. The declining estrogen level causes atrophic cystitis. This condition results in frequent urination, pyuria or the presence of pus in urine and incontinence. Menopause can also cause a change in the mammary system resulting in a reduced size of a woman’s breasts. Menopause can also affect the integumentary system. The integumentary system is the system in our body consisting of the skin, hair and nails; all of which protects our body from the external environment. Estrogen deprivation during menopause results in the loss of skin elasticity, loss of pubic and axillary hair and can sometimes even cause alopecia. M

enopause can also cause changes in a woman’s autonomic nervous system. The changes in the autonomic nervous system are the reasons why a woman under menopause experiences hot flashes and night sweats. These are occurrences that affect almost 60% of all women in menopause. The changes in a woman’s autonomic nervous system are the reasons why menopausal women experience vertigo, rapid heart beat or tachycardia, shortness of breath and irritability.

Emotional disturbances are also classic signs of women in menopause. These emotional disturbances include nervousness, irritability and bouts of anger. All these are also caused by autonomic nervous system changes during menopause. Menopause can also stimulate osteoporosis and atherosclerosis. The decrease in estrogen level during menopause has been linked to osteoporosis. However, its effect has not been clearly indicated with atherosclerosis.

Finally, all these changes a woman experiences during menopause can affect how she looks at life during and after menopause. Positively accepting these changes will give her a new and exciting life ahead, after menopause.

No matter where in the world, love exists. Some celebrations are low-key while others are full-fledged feats. Let’s look at some of these festivities.

NORTH AMERICA:

In both Canada and the United States, school-age children delight in exchanging Valentine cards with their friends. There are classroom parties with Valentine sweets and card exchanges. The students generally make fancy envelopes or boxes in which to deposit their cards. They also take great delight in creating homemade (school-made) Valentines out of red (pink, white) construction paper, other fancy papers, paper doilies (often available in a heart shape), etc. The pupils have as much fun in creating their cards as in receiving them!
Teenagers may have dances or parties while everyone, from adult down, gives flowers, candy, or some other gift to their spouses or significant others. Valentine candy is generally packaged in heart-shaped boxes sometimes decorated with lace and such.

Mexicans celebrate Valentine’s Day but the day goes by another name; “Dia de San Valentin” or “Dia del amor y la armistad” is a day of love and friendship.

EUROPE:

People living in Austria and Germany share with Americans the tradition of bestowing upon their wives presents of roses or chocolates.

In Denmark, Valentine’s Day is celebrated with enthusiasm. Early Valentine cards were transparent and when held up to the light, a picture of a man handing a woman a present would be projected. Another popular gift is to give pressed white flowers known as Snowdrops (one source identifies Snowdrops as candy). A “gaekkebrev” or joking letter, sent by men, has a romantic verse in it but is not signed. Instead, the man signs his name with a number of dots that correlate with the number of letters in his name. If the object of his affection guesses his identity, she receives an Egg on Easter.

In England, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in various ways. On Valentine’s Day Eve, women used to practice rather strange customs. They would take their pillow and pin a bay leaf on each of the four corners and consume eggs where the removed yolks were replaced with salt! (My mouth puckers at the mere thought.) After doing this, they were confident they would dream of their future husbands. In another custom, women would write the names of their lovers on paper. These papers were put on clay balls which were dropped into water. Whichever paper surfaced first would bear the name of their future husband.

In the present, some unmarried women arise from bed before daybreak on Valentine’s Day. They wait by the window, searching for a man to pass by. They feel the first man they see, or someone with a close resemblance to him, will become, within the year, their bridegroom.

Children in England sing special Valentine’s songs and receive candy, fruit, or money. In some regions of England, people bake special Valentine’s buns adorned with caraway seeds, plums, or raisins.

It is traditional to get engaged on Valentine’s Day in Italy. Popular gifts are china baskets and cups that have been filled with Valentine’s candies. Women in Italy practice the same fortune telling custom of watching for their future husbands as is done in England.

In Scotland, Valentine’s Day is traditionally celebrated with a festival where unmarried males and females gather together. Each individual writes their name (or a fictitious one) on a piece of paper which is folded and then put into a hat, one for the women and a separate one for the men.

The ladies draw first and the process is repeated by the men. When the two drawn names do not match, the man is expected to pair up with the lady who had drawn his name. The man presents a gift to the lady on his paper. The women pin the name of their partner on their sleeves or over their hearts. Is this the origin of wearing one’s heart on their sleeve?

In Spain, women give gifts to their husbands; men give flowers to their wives.

ASIA:

In China, Valentine’s Day is not normally celebrated on February 14th. Rather, according to the Chinese calendar. it is celebrated on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month. On this day, lovers crowd the Temple of Matchmaker to pray for love and happiness. Singles can also come to pray. One traditional practice involves girls putting a needle on the surface of the water when the star Vega can be found high in the sky. It is time then for the girl to search for a husband. Also, this day is set aside for girls to make any wish at all.

Modern China puts a new spin on this holiday when hotels give Valentine discounts for couples. Not only is the room rate discounted but also on this day the hotels will not ask and check for marriage certificates. However, any other day of the year Chinese law requires hotels to verify marriage certificates before allowing couples to check in.

In Israel, Valentine’s Day is a popular time for marriage proposals to be made. Gifts are also exchanged.

In Japan, chocolates play an important role. Women give a box of chocolates (“Giri-choko”) as a token of friendship or gratitude to her boss, colleagues, and male friends. Giri-choko” translates as “obligatory chocolate.”

Going a step further, a woman can express her love for that special man in her life by giving small gifts plus a box of chocolates known as “Honmei-choko” or “prospective chocolate.”

In a month’s time, men who have received the gift of chocolate presents the women with a box of chocolates on White Day, March 14th. These chocolates are generally either white chocolate or the candy is wrapped in white boxes. Japanese men often give gifts of lingerie or jewelry to their special women.

In Korea, Valentine’s Day is celebrated much the same as it is in Japan. However, men who were not recipients of chocolates celebrate together on April 14th, or Black Day, whereupon they eat black noodles called “Jajangmyun.”

Thousands of couples celebrate Valentine’s Day in the Philippines by gathering together for the world record of the most couples kissing at one time. This festivity is called Lovapalooza. That’s a lot of chapped lips!

Taiwan observes two Valentine’s Day celebrations, one on February 14th and the other on July 7th. On these days, it is traditional to exchange roses; the color and number of roses determine the message. For example, one rose is “only love,” eleven roses mean “a favorite,” “forever” is the message coming with ninety-nine roses, and one hundred and eight roses signify “marry me.”

In Thailand, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in unique ways. Among these ways is the joining of two elephants as the world’s largest bride and groom. Also included is the world’s largest mass-wedding and the world’s largest underwater wedding.

Love is forever, wherever you look.

Men who have been married for awhile may have a great deal of difficulty selecting gifts for their wives on Valentine’s Day. They may feel as though they have spent so many Valentine’s Day together that they have already bought their wives all of the standard gifts and may have trouble thinking up new and original gift ideas for Valentine’s Day.

They may have already bought their wives items such as flowers, candy, lingerie and jewelry and may feel as though repeating these gifts would not be appropriate. However, there are a lot of great gift ideas for men to give to their wives on Valentine’s Day. This article will focus on how men can update some of the traditional gift ideas and will also provide some unique gift ideas for men to give their wives on Valentine’s Day.

Candy is one of the most popular gifts for men to give to women on Valentine’s Day. Men who have given their wives a gift of candy in the past may feel as though it would be inappropriate to give her candy again. However, this is not true. Candy is a gift which is almost always appreciated on Valentine’s Day.

There are ways to make candy seem like a more original gift though. Men who normally give their wives a gift of an assortment of chocolates in a heart shaped box can search for other candy options available. For example, they may find chocolate covered strawberries available in a number of unique designs. They can also make a gift of candy more original by making the candy themselves.

Making candy is not difficult and can be a great deal of fun. While some women will always appreciate a gift of candy, she will be more surprised if you make the candy yourself because it shows you put more effort into the gift.

Jewelry is another popular gift idea for men to give to women on Valentine’s Day. Men may feel as though once they give their wife a few pieces of jewelry, there is no way to continue giving jewelry. However, this is not true. For example if you previously gave your wife a solitaire ring you might consider giving her a new ring with three stones to reflect the past, the present and your future together. You might even consider having the solitaire ring modified to include the additional stones.

You can also put a unique spin on gifts of jewelry by giving different stones or jewelry of different metals. However, when selecting a gift of jewelry for your wife on Valentine’s Day care should be taken to choose items that reflect her taste so you are sure your wife will love the gift and want to wear it often.

If you and your wife have children and excellent gift idea for Valentine’s Day is to present your wife with handmade coupons for free afternoons. You will take care of the kids during this time so your wife can go out and relax and enjoy some time to herself. Many women often feel guilty about leaving the children with their husbands to take time for themselves. This type of gift will make her more likely to take some time to get a manicure or do some shopping without feeling guilty because you will be volunteering to watch the kids so your wife will not feel like she is inconveniencing you by asking for some time to herself.

You can make this type of gift even more special by giving your wife a gift certificate to a beauty salon so she can go to get her hair done or have a manicure and pedicure. You can also plan a special activity for the kids while she is gone. For example you might sit with the kids and have them make a gift for their mom while she is gone. This way your wife will have some free time and will also receive a homemade gift from her children.

An easy, six step process to creating a personal wedding song to honor, love and respect your wife.

By Dave Pipitone

Husbands can create a loving environment and successful marriage by showing their wives how much they are loved and cherished. In his ground-breaking book, “Women are from Venus and Men are from Mars,” John Gray outlined the important differences between men and women. One of his key findings is that wives love to be touched and held.

Wives love to be told, in a gentle and humble way, how important they are to their husbands. One of the most touching ways that a husband can show honor and respect to his wife is to write a personal wedding song for her. No matter if a husband has been married for a month or longer than 50 years, he can renew his marriage every day with a personal wedding song.

“What me sing? No way!” most husbands may say. “I can’t carry a tune, let alone do a solo.” While it may seem challenging, a personal wedding song is simply a love poem set to music. I know from personal experience of writing, recording and singing a wedding song to my wife, that it can be done. When I started, I had no guidance, just a gut intuition. All it takes to get started is to know what steps to take and then take the first step. Here are six steps every husband can take to show his wife what a treasure she is.

Step One. Acknowledge Your Wife

Write down five attributes that you love about your wife and admire her for. What five would you choose? Is she, an excellent listener, your best friend? Does she have a friendly and warm smile or a hilarious sense of humor? Does she love to surprise you? If you can list ten or more things, all the better.

Step Two: Write Down the Special Things She Loves

What does your wife treasure? My wife Cheryl loves purple, she loves to hold hands and be hugged, she is very action oriented, she is so thoughtful, she never forgets a family member’s birthday. She loves greeting cards, music, plays, going out to dinner. She is very wise about relationships. A personal wedding song should focus on what is unique and special to your wife and your relationship.

Step Three: Put Yourself and Your Feelings into the Song

I wrote a personal wedding song for my wife after 14 years of marriage. I titled it “Song of Our Marriage.” I wrote a touching refrain that honored her with a title, her role in my life and what that has done for me. The lyrics to the refrain go like this:

“Teacher of wisdom, you’ve shown me God’s face, your strength is gentle and fine as white lace. You listen with heart strings that sing out a song, it’s your love that makes me feel strong.”

Using your list in Step 2, choose several of your wife’s best traits and write down what they mean to you. If you need help with rhyming, you can get a Rhyming Dictionary. Or you can read books of poems or search the Internet through a Google Search to get a starter idea. Make sure to personalize your words, though, so that they come from your heart. You want to be authentic; a cheap copy of someone else passed off as your own may work against you.

Step Four: Make It Simple: Two Verses and a Refrain (more if you can)

Make your personal wedding song easy to sing, but unique to your wife. For example, remember the poems that start, “Roses are red, violets are blue?” You can expand that phrase into a verse, like:

“Roses are red, violets are blue,

I can’t see myself living without you.
You are my wife, the crown of my life,
my life would be empty without you.”

Step Five: Use a Familiar Tune for the Music

Did you know that is acceptable to “borrow” a melody (as long as you don’t sell it or claim it as your own) for your personal wedding song? In fact, if your wife has a special song that she likes, you might learn how to write lyrics that go along with it. If you get serious, you could find a musician or studio to help. When I wrote “Song of Our Marriage,” I figured out the melody by humming it, plunking out the keys on a piano and then finding a studio that produced the accompaniment. Use the Internet to find someone who can help. With downloadable MP3 files, you can actually produce a song on your PC.

Step Six: Sing the Song to Your Wife and Frame the Lyrics

Now comes the most important part – the delivery. Don’t write a personal wedding song and then stick it in your golf bag. Perform it for your wife. Record it. Frame the lyrics and hang the song in your bedroom or kitchen. For “Song of Our Marriage,” I created even a photo album with pictures of my wife in Lilac Park, in Disney World, with her friends, and more in several sections. Each section of the album reflected the verse and refrain from the personal wedding song.

There you have it, six steps to writing a personal wedding song for your wife. It takes work. If I can do it, you can do it too. Go ahead, take a risk. Your wife will be deeply moved by your touching gift and care for her.

In his book, “Good Husband, Great Marriage,” Robert Alter affirms the strength and goodness of men. Particularly, in their ability to serve their wives. One of the greatest services a husband can give his wife is to tell her, “You are my best friend.”

Women find their meaning in relationships and relating to others. That includes feelings of love, joy, being connected, and celebrating life. As a husband, you can learn much from your wife about a strong, loving connection.

A fine dinner and night on the town are wonderful ways to connect with your wife. But a romantic love letter — ah, a personal love letter to your spouse is something that is kept and treasured. A life coach once told me that she worked as a chaplain with retired, rich people in their eighties who needed to move into a retirement community. They had to sell their large homes, sell or give away most of their material goods to move into a small one-room apartment. Guess what things they kept? Photos and letters. Personal memories of the best times that life had to offer. Precious treasures that money can not buy.

Encouraging words carry tremendous, positive energy that continues to touch the hearts and minds of people decades after they are said or written. It’s been said a handwritten love letter carries its own power because it is personal — written by the hand of one person who loves another.

So, if you desire to build an even stronger married relationship with your wife, tell her exactly what she is longing to her, that she is your best friend. Do you want to know how to write a love letter that will bring a smile to her lips, a tear to her eye and a prayer of gratitude that she is married to you?

Start with a notepad and jot down a few ideas of what your wife means to you. Does she have a sense of humor or a smile that knocks your socks off? How is she beautiful? How does it feel to you when she touches you and you touch her? How do you feel when she does all of those little things that save you time and aggravation? How do you feel when you go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning seeing her next to you, day after day, month after month, year after year?

Once you have those thoughts on paper, let them sit for a few hours or a day. Then, go back and circle or highlight the phrases and sentences that mean the most to you. If you feel a tug at your heart strings, or a tear forms in your eye, that is truth ringing through. Next, get a nice greeting card or sheet of stationery and write out your love letter. Here is an example.

My dearest Mary, You are my best friend. Every day when I wake up, I look over and see you sleeping securely and safely next to me. I am grateful for your (here is where you list the phrases from your notepad – smile, generous spirit, thoughtfulness to me and the children, etc.) I am so glad I married you. Today and always. Love, (your name.) Let your wife know how much you treasure her.

Do you find yourself wanting to make everyone happy, even if it means you are not? Have you hidden yourself in order to survive in your family? If you answered “yes” to the above, you are not alone. In my counseling practice, I have discovered numerous people pleasers, also known as adapters. After they overcame their issues and felt free to be their unique selves, I called them “Recovering People Pleasers.”

For example, Judy, a thirty-four year-old mother and wife, came to me because she was depressed. “I feel emotionally strangled by my husband,” she said in an angry tone.

Knowing that men and women often marry people like their mothers or fathers, I said, “Judy, go back to the time you felt that way. To her surprise, she regressed back to when she was two-years-old and her parents were yelling at her. She was crying and felt devastated. The decision she made from that experience was, “I have to please them or I will not be safe and loved.”

Then I asked Judy to go inside of her body and find the little girl that she locked up in order to survive in her family. She found little Judy in her heart, all curled up in a fetal position. I encouraged Judy to tell her little girl, “I am an adult now. It is safe to come out and be who you are. I love you. I will take care of you and protect you.” I guided Judy to imagine that she was taking little Judy to her home where she presently lived, to create a special room for the two-year-old, and then to say to the toddler, “This is your room from now on. We will walk life together hand in hand. It is safe to be who we are and we are loved.”

Judy took a deep breath of relief and felt much lighter and happier. She then realized that she chose a man who would fit her belief. I encouraged Judy to express to her husband in a loving way how she felt and what she wanted. I also recommended that she practice win-win problem solving so that they both felt empowered.

Can you relate to Judy’s story? Are you ready to be who you are and express your truth in a positive, loving way? When you don’t, you resent the people around you whom you allow to control you. In a sense, you become a puppet and give them the power to pull your strings. Then you are likely to be passive aggressive and get back at them in deceptive ways.

For example, you may make excuses to avoid being physically intimate, get sick, arrive late, be sarcastic, burn their dinner, or avoid spending time with them. Those negative behaviors are hurtful to them, you, and the relationship. This includes all forms of relationships, including lovers, children, parents, bosses, and friends.

I encourage you to resolve your fears of being who you are so that you can be happy, healthy, and loved. Then you can also be a Recovering People Pleaser.

Are you feeling frustrated with your relationships? Do you want a loving partner and seem to be unsuccessful in reaching your goal?

If you answered “yes” to either question, you may be sabotaging your efforts. As a Marriage, Family Therapist, I helped many clients, through a process I developed called HART (Holistic And Rapid Transformation), get in touch with their negative, self-defeating thoughts and change them to positive ones. Since beliefs are magnetic, they were then able to attract what they wanted.

The following are 20 unconscious reasons why you may be pushing away the relationship you desire and deserve, an example, and a positive thought to turn the negative belief into a positive one. If you recognize a negative thought is one of yours, then first imagine that you are deleting (erasing) it from your mind, and then say and write the positive thought. Keep repeating the affirmation until it becomes part of your automatic thinking.

1) I will get hurt if I am vulnerable. (Her first boyfriend broke off with her in high school.)

I am being vulnerable and I am safe because I believe that I am okay and lovable no matter what anyone says or does.

2) Men don’t like intelligent, successful women. (Her boyfriend rejected her when she was hired in a big company.)

I am attracting men who like intelligent, successful women.

3) I don’t deserve a loving relationship. (Her Dad left when she was five-years-old and she felt responsible.)

I am only responsible for myself, I am a good person, and I deserve a loving relationship.

4) Relationships do not fit my self-image. (She saw herself as unlovable because her dad never said he loved her or hugged her.)

I am lovable.

5) I can’t be me and be in a relationship. (Her mother told her that she gave up her dreams to be with her father.)

I am in a loving relationship and I am being me.

6) Men don’t like me when they get to know me. (She did not like herself and she projected that feeling on others.)

I like myself and men like me.

7) My friends will be jealous. (When she was a teen-ager, her friends rejected her when she became popular.)

I am in a loving relationship and my (true) friends are happy for me.

Relationships don’t last. (Her parents were divorced.)

I am in a lasting relationship.

9) Men try to control me. (Her brother and father were controlling.)

I am attracting a loving partner who supports me being me.

10) I am not good enough. (No matter what she did to please her mother, it was never enough.)

I am good enough.

11) Men are mean and abusive. (Her father was mean and physically and verbally abusive.)

I am attracting kind, loving men to me.

12) My mother will be jealous of me. (I am afraid that my mother will feel badly if I am happier than she is (or was).)

I am in a loving relationship and my mother is happy.

13) I am unattractive. (Her mother would often criticize her looks.)

I am attractive.

14) I am unimportant. (Her Dad was usually working and he spent very little time with her.)

I am important.

15) Men only want me for my body. (She is very attractive and men seemed to focus on her body.)

I am attracting a man who wants to be with me because he likes and loves who I am.

16) I can’t trust men. (Her father had affairs.)

I am attracting a partner I can trust.

17) I feel guilty for leaving my last partner. (She felt she did not deserve a loving relationship.)

I am a good person and I deserve a loving relationship.

18) There is no one out there for me. (She was attracting men that were not suitable for her.)

I am attracting my perfect partner at the perfect time.

19) I am afraid that I will have affairs. (She cheated on her first boyfriend.)

I trust myself to be loyal to my partner.

20) Men want me to be weak and submissive. (Her mother told her that she had to make men feel superior and let them win in sports.)

I am attracting a loving partner who wants me to be his equal.

If you related to any of the negative thoughts, cleared them, and said the positive thought, you probably feel better about relationships and yourself. If you still are not attracting what you want, then write down the following: “I can’t or won’t be in a loving relationship because____ (and finish the sentence).” Then do the same process as above. You do deserve a loving, healthy relationship. Go for it!
